
Monday 30th March 2009 Young Citizens' Action Event film now online
The
BBC and the Institute for Citizenship have released the Young Citizens'
Action Event film with highlights from the groundbreaking event at
Central Hall, Wesminster on 10th July 2008. The film features
appearances from Huw Edwards, Andrew Marr, Ed Miliband MP, Iain Duncan
Smith MP, Nik Wood and Mark Easton.
This film can be used
to help teach Citizenship Education, PSHE and political literacy. To

Thursday 5th February 2009 London Panel deliver Action Agenda to Mayor and Minister
Today,
the London Panel delivered the Young Citizens' Action Agenda for London
to the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, and the Minister for London, the

Friday 19th December 2008 Date announced for London Panel to meet Mayor of London
The
Greater London Authority and the Institute for Citizenship have
announced that the Young Citizens' London Action Panel will be
delivering their Young Citizens' Action Agenda for London to the Mayor
of London, Boris Johnson, on Thursday 5th February 2009.

Wednesday 17th December 2008 UK Panel Deliver Action Agenda to Downing Street
Today,
six members of the Young Citizens' UK Action Panel presented the
Government with their Young Citizens' Action Agenda for the UK.

Tuesday 16th December 2008 UK Panel to Deliver Action Agenda to Downing Street
On
Wednesday the Young Citizens' UK Action Panel will convene in London to
deliver their Action Agenda to the Government. Six young people from
across the UK will visit No. 10 Downing Street to present their Young
Citizens' Action Agenda to the Government. The Action Agenda will:
- Inform the PM and the Government of areas where young people need government support
- Inform the PM and the Government of action young people could take to help with practical problems.
After visiting No. 10 Downing Street they will visit Parliament to deliver the Action Agenda to their loca MPs.

The London Panel will be delivering their London Young Citizens' Action Agenda to the Mayor of London in February 2009.
Thursday 23rd October 2008 YCAA Consultation Resources Released
The
Institute for Citizenship has today launched the Young Citizens' Action
Agenda consultation. 24 young people are working with the Institute on
the YCAA panels for London and UK and have come up with 14 points of
importance to the young citizens in UK.
Now we are
inviting teachers and students in schools across the UK to get involved
and provide feedback. Teachers can incorporate the Consultation with
Citizenship lessons with the specially made YCAA Citizenship Resources.

Friday 3rd October 2008 Young Citizens' Action Agenda UpdateThe
Young Citizens' Action Agenda campaign is now in full swing after the
summer. We have now randomly selected young citizens to become a part
of our two Action Agenda Panels, one for London and one for the UK. The
panels are now working on the first draft of the Action Agendas that
will be presented to the Mayor of London and Prime Minister in November
2008.
The first draft of the Action Agendas will be sent to
Schools and Youth Groups across the UK for their opinions before the
London and UK panels compile the final drafts for presentation to the
Mayor of London and Prime Minister. Please come back to this website in
the next few weeks for more information of the consultancy period.
The
Young Citizens' Action Agenda campaign now has a Facebook group, so
please join and help the support the campaign that aims to give young
citizens the
information and skills they need to face the challenges of the 21st
Century.

and will have pictures and videos as the 2008 campaign comes to its
conclusion in November 2008.
Monday 18th August 2008 Young Citizens' Say online survey closesThe
Young Citizens' Say survey has now closed for 2008. Thank you to
everyone that took the time to complete it. The Institute for
Citizenship is now analysing the data and will be using it to help our
Young Citizens' Panels for the UK and London set Action Agendas for the
Prime Minister and Mayor of London, these will be delivered in October
2008. In addition, the data will also be used to inform the Young
Citizens' Say Report that will be released in November 2008.
The Institute for Citizenship would like to thank everyone that took part.

The

Monday 28th July 2008 Watch the Young Citizens' Action Event short films
The
Politics Matters and Citizenship Matters films, as shown at the Young
Citizens' Action Event on 10th July 2008, are now available on the BBC
Schools Question Time website. The short films by Andrew Marr and Mark
Easton are very useful for Citizenship and PSHE lessons, and can be
viewed and downloaded on the BBC website.
The Institute for
Citizenship would like to thank BBC Outreach for producing these films
especially for the groundbreaking Young Citizens' Action Event.

Monday 28th July 2008 Mark Easton on the positives of our young citizens
Mark
Easton, BBC News' Home Editor, has recently added an article on his
blog about '10 reasons to cheer our teenagers'. Mark was a guest
speaker at the Young Citizens' Action Event on 10th July 2008 and
pushed for young people - all people - to become more engaged as active
citizens. The aim of the Young Citizens' Action Agenda is to promote
the role that young citizens can take in producing solutions for the
21st Century and to promote young people as positive citizens despite
the negative picture often painted by the media.
The
Institute for Citizenship are delighted that people are actively
celebrating teenagers as active and responsible citizens and hope that
the Young Citizens' Action Agenda continues to promote their positive
role in society.

Tuesday 23rd July 2008 Take the Young Citizens' Say Survey - Have Your Say!To create Young Citizens' Action Agenda's for the Prime Minister and
Mayor of London, the Institute for Citizenship is now surveying young
people between 14-19 years old for their opinions. The Young Citizens'
Action Agenda campaign aims to give young citizens the voice and skills
to produce
solutions for the 21st Century. The Young Citizens' Say Survey covers
all aspects of 21st Century life from politics to economics to the
London 2012 Olympics.

Friday 11th July 2008 Young Citizens' Action Event Huge Success
Nearly
1,400 teachers and students attended the groundbreaking Young Citizens'
Action Event at Central Hall, Westminster on Thursday 10th July 2008.
The Event was hosted by Huw Edwards (BBC News) with help from Hardeep
Singh Kohli (BBC Presenter) and Jane Hill (BBC News) and featured
appearances from Andrew Marr (BBC), Mark Easton (BBC), Iain Duncan
Smith MP, Ed Miliband MP, Sir Mike Rake (Chairman, BT), Michael Cassidy
(City of London Corporation), Nik Woods (BBC) and Mark Thompson
(Director General, BBC).
The event discussed the important
issues of Politics, Economics and 21st Century Citizenship. In the
evening the audience stayed on to watch Question Time with David Dimbleby, making them the largest ever audience of Question Time.
Supporters
for the Young Citizens' Action Event included BBC, Evening Standard,
GLA, City of London Corporation, BT, Parliamentary Education Service
and Steljes. The Institute for Citizenship is particularly grateful to
all our supporters for helping make this groundbreaking event happen.

Fri 27th June 2008 Tickets still available for the Young Citizens' Action Event!After
a huge amount of interest in the Young Citizens' Action Event on 10th
July 2008 at Central Hall, Wesminster we now only have approximately
150 tickets for Schools/Youth Groups to bring students aged 16-19 to
this groundbreaking occasion. The afternoon hosted by BBC News
Presenter Huw Edwards will feature sessions on the importance of
Politics, Economics and 21st Century Challenges with guest speaker
appearances from Andrew Marr, Mark Easton, Hardeep Singh Kohli, Nik
Wood, David Dimbleby and Jane Hill. In the evening students will stay
on to take part in a special edition of Question Time with the largest

Thurs 26th June 2008 Tonight's Question TimeWith
just two weeks until the groundbreaking Young Citizens' Action Event,
the Institute for Citizenship's President David Dimbleby will announce
further details for applying for tickets on tonight's Question Time.
Question Time is in Bexhill tonight and the panel features Ivette
Cooper MP, Baroness Neville Jones, Chris Huhne MP, Grayson Perry and
Dame Ann Leslie. Question Time will be broadcast on BBC ONE at 10:35pm

Tues 24th June 2008 Young Citizens' Action Event guest speakers updateThe
guest speakers for the Young Citizens' Action Event at Central Hall on
10th July 2008 currently includes Huw Edwards (BBC News), David

(The One Show) and Andrew Marr (The Andrew Marr Show) (all pictured).
