Young Citizens' Action Agenda for London
"London
is filled with talented, ambitious young people who have fantastic
suggestions about making the city a better place. I shall read the
proposals in the Action Agenda with immense interest. I have recently
appointed James Cleverly as my youth ambassador to ensure that the
voice of young Londoners plays a key part in all of my decisions. I
look forward to working together with the Young Citizens' London Panel
to ensure some of these great ideas come to fruition."
Boris Johnson, Mayor of London
"The government is eager to hear young people’s views, and the work
of the London Young Citizen’s Action Panel will be invaluable to local
authorities and central government in making the policies that affect
teenagers in the capital and beyond.Young people can often be the
subject of negative reporting, and we don't hear nearly enough
about the positive activities and aspirations of the vast majority."
Tony McNulty MP, Minister for London
The Young Citizens' Action Agenda for The UK
The
London Panel presented their Young Citizens' Action Agenda for
London to the Mayor of London and Minister for London on Thursday 5th February 2009.
London Young Citizens' Action Panel
Ten
young people from across London were randomly chosen in September
2008,
from over 400 volunteers to represent the views of young citizens in
London. The London Panel worked with data from the Young Citizens' Say
Survey results and a London-wide Schools' Consultation to create a
representative Action Agenda that aims to:
- Inform the Mayor of London and London Authorities of areas where young people need government support
- Inform the Mayor of London and London Authorities of action young people could take to help with practical problems.
The
panel worked on the Action Agenda for three months from September 2008
to January 2009. The London panel also gave feedback to the
UK Panel and presented their Action Agenda in February 2009.
